The
Positive Side of
Golf Warm-up
for the Golf Season in Glenwood
Springs Now
where can you go to warm-up for the golf
season? With a list that has now grown to
over 250 golf courses in Colorado, how do
you decide? After your first round of golf
this season consider soaking in the
World's Largest Outdoor Mineral Hot
Springs Pool. Located in the Roaring Fork
Valley, suitably situated between famous
neighbors Vail and Aspen at the confluence
of the Colorado and Roaring Fork Rivers,
Glenwood Springs has four great public
courses within a twenty minute drive. The
Cotton Ranch Club is in Gypsum just on the
east side of Glenwood Canyon; Rifle Creek
Golf Club is 20 minutes west; Lakota
Canyon is ten minutes west; and River
Valley Ranch Golf Club is 10 minutes south
of the Hot Springs Pool. If you
think I'm kidding about soaking in the Hot
Springs as part of your golf season
warm-up, think again. Thousands of years
in the making, hot springs along the banks
of the Colorado River through Glenwood
Canyon have a rich history. Super-heated
water bubbles up through layers of
sandstone emerging in underground caves
and hot pools in the river. The Ute
Indians were the first to discover these
mineral rich waters calling them "Yampah"
meaning "Big Medicine". For hundreds of
years, the Ute Indians fought over and
protected this sacred spot. When I
met Kathleen over 9 years ago, I was new
to Colorado and she made it a point to get
me to the Hot Springs Lodge and Pool in
Glenwood Springs. Before going my first
time, I thought we were going to a hot
swimming pool with a bunch of kids
splashing and running around. I couldn't
have been more wrong. The Large pool is
bigger than a football field, checking in
at 405 feet long x 100 feet wide with an
average temperature of 90°-93°F,
2 diving boards and 5 lap lanes. The 100
foot long x 100 foot wide Therapy pool
with a soothing steady temperature of
104° has seating in the mineral rich
water all around the perimeter and 6
bubbling chairs to help wash away your
aches and pains from a round or two of
golf. This is the real deal. Not only does
the Hot Springs Pool have healing powers
and is very spiritual in nature,
Presidents and dignitaries from around the
world have been enjoying Glenwood Springs
since the late 1880's. There must be
something to it If people from around the
world flock here to soak in the
therapeutic waters. With modern
technology, the pools remain remarkably
clean and spotless with their Ozinator
filtration system. If all this isn't
enough, Glenwood Springs Lodge & Pool
has an upscale health and athletic center
with a wide variety of workout equipment,
free weights and four Racket Ball courts.
Boasting two 350 foot water slides into a
third pool and a kid's play area, there is
plenty of room for everyone. Oh yea,
there's even a Miniature Golf Course on
the property as well. Glenwood Springs
Lodge & Pool has Stay and Play
packages with the nearby courses and are
eager to help you enjoy your stay. Look
